Humanscan (CEO Rhim Sung Min) signed a letter of intent valued at $500,000 for ¡°Development of ultrasound probe using PMN-PT single crystal¡± this past 18th with Germany¡¯s Siemens, the company specialized in medical imaging equipments (ultrasound, X-ray, MRI, etc.). Humanscan has already begun progressing ¡®material parts development business. The company has commercialized the single crystal probe first time in the world. The probe is evaluated to be superior to other probes in clinical imaging and already obtained NT (New Technology) certification. Humanscan purchases single crystals from iBule Photanics (CEO Lee Sang Koo, KT(Korean New Technology), EM(quality) certifications) which has been considered to be the best in mass production and quality in the world. Therefore PMN-PT single crystal ultrasound probe, developed purely by technologies from Korea, is the world best technology and the product. Germany¡¯s Siemens is in the field of ultrasound, X-ray, etc. Along with GE and Phillips, Siemens competes in the world market. Recently, the company established a joint venture with domestic company to enter the Asian market. As Siemens took over Acuson, a company specializing in ultrasound probes with the world¡¯s best technologies, Siemens has become unrivaled in the field of ultrasound imaging technologies. While Siemens was developing an ultrasound probe that uses single crystals, realization of difficulties in procuring single crystal supply and handling of the material led to commissioning iBULe and Humanscan. IBule is reputed to have world best capability in supplying PMN-PT single crystals and Humanscan is considered to be the best in developing single crystal probe technology. Henceforth, after developments were done, Humanscan agreed with Siemens to supply 1000 units per year and Ibule Photonics has agreed to entirely supply Humanscan with single crystals for medical usage. Also, previously entirely depended on the imports from USA and Japan for the high end ultrasound probes has been replaced by the domestic company developing and supplying the product will level up to the premium equipment market and expected to be high value added.
